The concert „Gaude Mater Polonia”, devoted to the Polish musical tradition, will take place in the Krypta Zasłużonych in the Bazylika Na Skałce. Performing will be the Chór Świętego Michała, conducted by Ewa Pasek, and the Chór Instytutu Historii UJ Vox Historiae, conducted by Krzysztof Dobosz.
The programme combines works by early masters with hymns that for centuries have accompanied Poles in expressing their faith and attachment to the homeland. The concert begins at around 8.00 pm, directly after a Mass celebrated at 7.00 pm. Admission is free.
The programme includes, among others:
- „Gaude Mater Polonia” by Wincenty z Kielczy,
- „Omni die dic Mariae” by Fr Grzegorz Gerwazy Gorczycki,
- „Nieście chwałę” by Mikołaj Gomółka,
- „Błogosławiony człowiek” by Wacław z Szamotuł,
- „Roty” by Feliks Nowowiejski,
- „O polski kraju święty” by Feliks Nowowiejski,
- „Boże, coś Polskę” by Alojzy Feliński.
The concert therefore features religious and patriotic works. The historic setting of the crypt provides the backdrop to the event, and the organisers note that it offers an opportunity to share in the celebration of Independence Day in this place.
