The Instytut Kultury Willa Decjusza invites you to join in celebrating National Independence Day in the historic Strzelnica na Woli building. The programme brings together art, the history of the place and the memory of the local community. Alongside artists and educators, residents also take part in the events. All programme items are free of charge, but you must collect a free ticket in advance.
Programme for 11 November:
- 13:00 – guided tour of the exhibition „Dotykając nieba” by Julen W., led by Ewa Tłuczek. The starting point is a series of paintings inspired by Catalan cultural heritage. The conversation explores what connects Poland and Catalonia, and how to interpret foreign art in the context of national identity. The tour covers themes linked to Catalan architecture and literature (including Antoni Gaudí, Jacint Verdaguer, Joan Maragall and Salvador Espriu), supplemented by poems and an extract from a documentary about Barcelona.
- 14:00 – official opening of a historical exhibition about Strzelnica na Woli, held outside the building. The display presents the history of this 19th-century structure, its original function and its transformations against the backdrop of Kraków’s history.
- 14:30–15:30 – meeting on neighbourhood memories of Strzelnica and of the changing Wola Justowska. Taking part will be Anna Środoń née Schoen, filmmaker Andrzej Lelito and local activist and councillor Piotr Chechelski. The discussion will be moderated by Grzegorz Mikunda.
- 14:30–15:30 – educational walk with elements of a outdoor game for families with children aged 7–13, led by Marek Grzybek, museum educator and licensed guide to Kraków. The workshop lasts about an hour and explores more than a hundred years of the building’s and the district’s history; participants take on roles and complete tasks.
- 15:30–17:00 – craft workshop „Kreatywnie dla Niepodległej”. Participants create collages, stained-glass pieces and paper cut-outs, while the session includes a conversation about patriotism, respect for history, and care for nature and culture.
- 16:00–17:00 – accordion recital by Krzysztof Madyda, winner of more than thirty competition prizes at home and abroad. The programme pairs contemporary Polish music with works by composers from different eras and traditions, including „Studium III” by Andrzej Krzanowski, „Dyad” by Mikołaj Majkusiak, a sonata by Domenico Scarlatti, and pieces by Astor Piazzolla and Władysław Zołotariow.
During the event, the Archiwum wspomnień (Archive of Memories) is also open: a drop-in point where you can bring photographs, postcards, documents and keepsakes related to Strzelnica and its surroundings. Materials will be scanned on site, or you can provide digital copies. You may add a short description to the collection and record your own memories.
