Special public transport
On Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November, the full special offer of Kraków public transport is to be in force. On Sunday 1 November, 34 special lines are planned: 26 bus lines and 8 tram lines. Some of them are to run as often as every 10 minutes.
Additional services are also planned for Friday 30 October and Monday 2 November. On those days, special tram lines 83 and 84, among others, are to run. Zarząd Transportu Publicznego (ZTP, the Public Transport Authority) has made available an interactive map showing the routes of the special lines, which can be used to check routes before setting out.
The changes also affect Wieliczka: from 30 October, from 8 p.m., until 1 November, until 9 p.m., temporary modifications have been introduced to the operation of lines 224 and 284.
Traffic changes around cemeteries
From 30 October to 1 November, temporary changes to traffic organisation will be in force around the largest cemeteries. They may be most noticeable around Rakowicki Cemetery.
Rakowicka Street will be completely closed to cars on the section from the car park at the University of Economics to Grochowska Street. Only trams will be able to travel along this section. It will not be possible to turn into Rakowicka Street from Olszańska Street, and a parking ban will be in force on Olszańska Street.
Around the cemeteries, expect increased road checks and parking restrictions. Transport authorities point to public transport as the most convenient way to reach the cemeteries.
Note: Before heading to a cemetery, it is worth checking the current routes of the special lines on the ZTP interactive map. If travelling by car, be prepared for possible delays and restrictions on traffic and parking.
Cultural and commemorative events
On Friday 30 October at 6 p.m., the opening of the “Moja Ziemia – Twoja Ziemia” series of talks is planned in the Sala Amadeuszowa at ulica Krakowska 13. The organisers are Teatr Nowy Proxima and Pałac Nieśmiertelności. Young Ukrainians who grew up in Poland after 2014 will take part in the meeting.
From 27 to 31 October, ceremonies marking the anniversary of the death of Ignacy Daszyński are taking place in Kraków. Around All Saints’ Day, the 23rd International Festival “Zaduszki Organowe” named after Prof. Jan Jargoń has also been announced, along with a commemoration of the victims of the Baudienst by lighting a candle at the Liban quarry.
On 31 October and 1 November, the traditional charity collection for the renovation of historic gravestones will take place at the Nowy Cmentarz Podgórski.
All Souls’ Day in the cemeteries
For Monday 2 November, All Souls’ Day, events are planned on the history of the cemeteries and on people connected with the history of Podgórze and Kraków. That day’s programme complements the weekend observances, and the additional public transport services are also in force on Monday.
It is worth checking the organisers’ announcements for details of the times and venues of individual events before leaving home.
