The exhibition ‘Spirits’ by Agata Kus opened on 24 October 2026 and will be on view until 28 February 2027. It is the first event in a collaboration between Bunkra Sztuki and the Pałac at ul. Piłsudskiego 4, which operates as a gastronomic and cultural concept.
The exhibition presents five painterly works and ten oil paintings created between 2018 and 2026. The artist draws on photographs, both her own and those from family albums, as well as images found online. She selects fragments from them, alters the framing and transforms them into painted compositions. Some of the works show traces of digital recording, such as Instagram frames, the time a photo was taken or the battery level. In them, the private archive merges with images circulating online, and the people and situations captured take on new meanings.
The exhibition can be read as a meeting of two kinds of memory: the fast and selective memory of a phone, and the memory of a place. The Pałac at ul. Piłsudskiego 4 was once a space of social life, was destroyed during the war and, after its reconstruction, served for decades as the seat of a seminary. The source material also links the exhibition to Wyspiański, who worked on ‘Wesele’ nearby.
Agata Kus (born 1987) lives and works in Kraków. She graduated from the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and works across painting, drawing, ceramics and video. She is the recipient of the Grand Prix of the WRO 2015 International Media Art Biennale, and in 2020 she took first place in the Kompas Młodej Sztuki ranking (ex aequo with Łukasz Patelczyk). Her works are held in the collections of, among others, MOCAK, Bunkra Sztuki, the Muzeum Narodowego w Gdańsku and the Elektrownia w Radomiu. In 2019 Bunkier Sztuki presented her monographic exhibition ‘Horror Picture Show’, and in 2026 her exhibition ‘Obietnice’ was shown at the Państwowa Galeria Sztuki w Sopocie.
In the historic building, a space called ‘Bunkier w Pałacu’ is being created, available in the evenings to guests of the Pałac. In the future, an artist residency programme is planned to launch there.
