The third edition of the Odyseja Nowohucka, titled ‘Memory of Water’, takes place from 15 October to 27 November 2026 in the spaces of Teatr Łaźnia Nowa and Dom Utopii. The programme includes meetings, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, concerts and a debate.
The project is an interdisciplinary artistic undertaking whose starting point is the question of water as a carrier of memory: biological, cultural, environmental and personal. The organisers view water both as a resource on which life depends and as a medium linking the human body with the river, history with the present, and art with ecology. The project’s curator is Małgorzata Szydłowska.
The project is based on the premise that the history of a place can also be read in its landscape, not only in its buildings, documents and biographies. Water shaped settlement routes, powered mills, irrigated fields and formed ecosystems. During the construction of Nowa Huta, part of this watery landscape was subordinated to the emerging city.
The project is inspired by Elif Shafak’s novel ‘There Are Rivers in the Sky’, in which a single drop of water travels through the centuries, becoming a metaphor for memory that does not disappear but changes state and returns.
Artists from various fields of art have been invited to take part. Among them are Anna Nacher, Alicja Patanowska, Rafał Mazur and Wojciech Radtke. The detailed programme is available on the organiser’s website.
The programme includes, among other things, a debate:
- 27 November, 18:00–20:00: ‘Na początku była Dłubnia’ – a debate on the beginnings of Nowa Huta and the significance of the River Dłubnia. Venue: Galeria Nurt, Teatr Łaźnia Nowa. Participants: Maciej Miezian, dr hab. inż. Mariusz Czop, Marcin Pawlik, Cecylia Malik, Paweł Augustynek Halny, Katarzyna Kobylarczyk.
