The musical production ‘Dziady’ is inspired by the drama of Adam Mickiewicz. The creators transport audiences into a world of Slavic beliefs, spirits and mysteries. The classic text serves as the starting point for a performance in which live music is combined with the Romantic tale. The central focus is the atmosphere of eeriness and unease, along with the motif of the blurred boundary between the living and the dead. The musical form is intended to bring out the dark, ritualistic and mysterious character of Mickiewicz’s work.
This production is being staged for the third time. This year’s cast includes:
- Iwona Karcz-Wojnarowska, winner of the award for Best Female Vocalist at the 30th International Folk Music Festival ‘Mikołajki Folkowe’,
- Ewa Trzepióra,
- Natalia Kunikowska,
- Agnieszka Madalska,
- Wojciech Wilanowski,
- Łukasz Kolender.
They are joined on stage by a musical ensemble consisting of Jakub Zielina, Oskar Czechowicz, Piotr Wojnarowski, Filip Jurczak and other musicians.
The direction and music are by Jakub Zielina, a multi-instrumentalist and composer of music for theatre and musical productions, and founder of the project Żmij, with which he has been touring in Poland and abroad for a decade.
